Ethics proceeds on scientific proof

Harm and hurt are the benchmarks

We call them evil but as the world

becomes more humane

we will become less harsh

Now when we came to cigarettes

we had a case where we could prove harm pretty well

We could prove it out now on cars and accidents

but the forces of evil live in the board rooms

where it is decided we cannot afford to be good

Yes ethics is finally the good

but all good is is zapping harm and hurt

And all we know is now we have the power

to prove this out

and what stops us is the

conscious decisions of people in suits

and ties

to pull some rank and gulp and

do a little bit more evil or the roof

they believe is stable above them

will collapse and who gives a damn

for anyone else anyway?
