Forgotten Moments

For Michael

There are these moments, little moments, that

when you’re not looking,

seem to fade into the background.

Seemingly insignificant moments, yet they are

the glue of our lives together.

Standing at the kitchen window, gazing at the sunrise over the field as you

wrap your arms around me and

stand silently

as the world wakes up.

Such a small moment, happens almost every day.

Coming home and seeing your car,

parked too far left in the drive,

studiously at work on the corner desk, in a living room too small.

Taken for granted

every day.

Such tiny, little moments, that pass us by. As we wait for the big moments,

the limelight moments…

we race by.

The smile on your face when I come to bed,

crawling under sheets and quilts to

burrow in your warmth.

The sound of your sigh as you kiss my head.

Your steady heartbeat under my ear — a lullaby.

These are the moments, tiny glorious moments, that make me

pause

and find the beauty in our simple life,

our quiet life.
