Habits are not bits of wise advice. They are integral to the process of living consciously. A habit is something you do as the result of being settled, of taking pleasure in a particular set of actions. I say this with little hope that it will be perceived as an alternative to a plethora of articles which see habits as simply good things to consider doing. Such advice is more in the realm of wisdom or maxims or aphorism. It does not result in the formation of a habit unless it is in itself a disturbance.

Yes, it is because we are unsettled that we form habits. We do it naturally. Understanding this, life becomes somewhat more conscious. A sense of disturbance can be taken in stride because it harbors the development of a new way of doing things, or at least of an adjustment in the way things are being done.

I suppose this is carping but, hey, I am a carper. So carp I shall.

Life is aimed at achieving habits that are sufficiently great that one need give little thought to changing them.
