Hurricanes are man-made catastrophes
Hurricanes are man-made catastrophes
Signs sent to us time to time
They say don’t live here
live up higher
leave these waters be
But leaders will be followed
and our minds are ceded to the
murky depths of mindlessness
descending into selfishness
and then arresting in the straits
of memory of how we always were.
Build elsewhere is the message
of the storms we call severe
and of the quakes we see as enemies
But secretly we root for these disasters
Call them acts of god
and reason is consigned to
the realm of the utopians
We do not ravage
It is Matthew
Oh the billions lost
How much would cost
a hundred years ago to say
we’ll let the shoreline be
Or even design sensiibly
today
Disaster is our easy ritual
to deny who we are
when we consider things
