Jesus — A God Problem

After talking with Mary, Jesus spoke with with Abba.

You may wonder how, in heaven, Abba is known. It is simple enough. Abba is known on earth by all manner of names. Finally. the names are no more important than the name of the One said to have addressed Moses with the apposite phrase, “I am I”.

But Abba is the word, or voice, of this One. In heaven he responds to the name he was known by which could be any name at all.

We mortals control how we will relate to heaven, both here and there. Clearly we use many modes of communication and many names, not to mention languages and other distinctions. Freedom is our great asset, save when it results in debacles for which we make a certain restitution upon departing this coil. Freedom is the root condition of human beings.

The name Abba — for Jesus and for many more — best designates the amicable one to whom Jesus speaks now, as he has since his earthly childhood. “We are one,” he began. It was his salutation.

“What’s on your mind, Jesus?” Abba asked.

“A god problem.”

Abba chuckled.

“We are not god and no one else is either. At the same time, anyone can be unified. That’s as close to god as one gets. What more need be said?”

“The word god is more and more used,” Jesus said. “It is even a curse word. In the mouths of some priests the word god is almost a pompous suggestion that they know more than anyone can know.”

“So?”

“Can we speak openly about unification?”

“Certainly. Why not?”

“It is hard to describe.”

“Yes.”

“How would you describe it, Abba?” Jesus asked. “It is your state of being, after all.”

“It is the experience of unity with all. All that is. It is pervasive. It is precious. True. Beautiful. Just. There are no barriers. Anyone can and many do experience it, but only for a few seconds, and then only once or twice in one lifetime. It is more and more experienced here, of course. It cannot be easily described.”

“Sounds like bad medicine.”

Abba chuckled again.

“Here is what to do,” Jesus. “Tell people to seek for it. Tell people to ask for it. Tell people to watch for it. You tell them to be open to it. Tell them it is the experience of unity with all. Tell them it is what some people sopend all their lives trying to experience. Tell them anyone can. Ask. Seek. Knock.”

“That’s good advice.”

“Of course. It is what you always said to people. It got rather lost in all the other stuff.”

“What about this god language. It is everywhere. They even are composing creeds and fighting over them.”

“Nothing. Don’t do anything. It’s their soup. In time it will lose its savor. Patience, Jesus, patience.”

Jesus decided he would say nothing to anyone about god language. He turned his mind Abba’s good advice.

Shakers and movers on earth had almost no idea of the influence of Jesus on ordinary persons who simply sought him out. They thought they knew everything there was to know. Jesus sometimes thought Abba was a bit unreasonable to urge patience. But then again he understood.
