Jesus Plumbs Abba’s Mind
After Jesus had declared his intent to be aggressive in pressing for a great sea change toward goodness, he was seized by curiosity.
“Abba, if you are in everyone, two questions. How does it work? How is it possible to know what is in everyone all at once?”
Now these questions were rising to the surface. Actually, Jesus had such questions from the beginning.
By his reckoning, there were volumes of conversation between him and Abba. He could not remember them all. Could Abba? Could Abba know the future? Could he tell Jesus how things were across the sea?
“Jesus,” Abba answered. “I will try to explain.
“First, I am as I am to you with all who come to me. I am within a knock, a seeking, an asking of anyone. How can it be?
“Well, partly because of how you are created. You and everyone else. You are aware of me all the time whether you know it or not. That’s one thing.”
Jesus did not answer. He waited.
“I am with many people. How? Notice I almost never volunteer anything. I respond to your initiative. That’s how it works. I am like a fountain or a great wind. Elemental. I am there for all and specific to each.
“Every creature there is, even blades of grass. Or little things, passing through air.”
“So people look within and ask?”
“Yes, Jesus.”
“And everyone knows you.”
“Everyone. Even the most evil and degenerate. That person most of all.
“Who do so many people not seek you?”
“Because they have no care in the world. They see evil as normal. They move through life withiout a care. When it’s all over, they go mad.”
“Go mad?”
“Mad, Jesus. That’s the fate of those who take no responsibility. Selfish. Mindless. Leading people, Jesus. Well-to- do.”
“Why do they go mad?”
“They see they traded their freedom away. They see they were blind to what is fair and just. You will encounter these sorts, Jesus. They will call you a naive dreamer.”
“They are hypocrites.”
“Yes. Unable to see. Puffed up.”
Later, Jesus marvelled at how Abba answered questions and always seemed to end up at some lesson that applied directly to him.
He walked along.
He imagined a fly soaring about. Seeking Abba. Then learning of a gathering storm he would do well to avoid.
U-turn in the sky.
Abba, helper of all.
