Money and Spirituality

No money should be needed to engage in a spiritual life. The resources needed to become awakened rise from the circumstances of our lives. Anyone with the capacity to read and to hear can use freely available texts and videos to supplement their own inner explorations. There is no need to join any organization. There is no need to pay for expensive studies or services. Spirituality is a matter of connecting to what you want to know about.

The biggest danger we face is to believe that any outside source can advance you. Some sources are helpful. Some are not. If there is a required fee, move on. Insist on using free resources to make your way. If we wish to attend a church or other place of worship, by all means do. You are the one who decides the depth of your involvement.

Be a critical observer. Cultivate inner resources. Use your mind to frame questions about your hopes and intentions. Use your consciousness to explore who you are and what you seek in life. Use trusted help as needed to get feedback and advice. Do not be afraid to seek out people you respect.

It goes without saying that at least to me, any intrusion of money into such dealings is a Red Flag. There are many free services and the Internet is a good place to learn about them. Gutenberg for free texts in all areas. Local places require cultivating an instinct to inquire. Find a lead or two. A trusted teacher is a good starting point.

The motives of spiritual and religious enterprises vary immensely. Attending free events like lectures is sensible. We will never easily separate the financial from the free motivations out there. I hope I have said enough to make following your own impulses preferable to assuming you should dive into a life of serial exposure and endless expense.
