Ontology is being but being does not stand alone
Ontology is being but being does not stand alone
It speaks of ends or teleologies and begs description even at the risk
of disses and other stones on the road.
Let’s say for starters that Ontology or Being is subordinate to Reality
but its utility is its ability to enable the suggestion that Reality is all
and that Ontology expresses what within Reality is universal
to which we may append such modifiers (yes words modify)
as beauty truth and good construed as
a brace of values which
could be assumed to represent the realization of ontological beingness
in the very lives we lead upon this not-so-shaky planet.
To bring this down to earth
when I propounded Triadic Philosophy
as an open source philosophy on Twitter
that would grow via successive (eventual) Kindle texts
it took me a full five years to see that I was merely suggesting
a more complete version of what I had always thought.
Now I must assume that Ontology is simply and mainly
a means of saying what is true and good and beautiful and therefore has
the quality of universal relevance and goodness
Justice qualifies
Forgiveness or cancelling of debts does
Tolerance does
Helpfulness does
Democracy does
Non-idolatry does.
I suspect that anyone can construct
a similar sense of the ontological.
The utility of the ontological is its capacity to play a part
in a process of conscious thought I call triadic thinking.
Its root triad is
Reality Ethics Aesthetics
Reality the Sign
Ethics the values I have cited
(tolerance democracy helpfulness non-idolatry)
and Aesthetics
the realm of action and expression.
You can infer that we bring the ontological
to the moment
to the actual lives we live
as we see the aesthetic as
the generation of behavior that aspires to
the two linked elements of the ontological
that Keats appropriately called all we know on earth and
all we need to know.
Revise rewrite reiterate is what I do daily
but it comes to the same thing.
If not comprehended here
in some other expression.
Ontology is being
but it does not stand alone.
