Self-Absorption

So self absorbed are we that we are likely

to go through life non-interactively

I am talking about us and matter mainly

We never think it is alive

Of course if I meet someone on the street

I’ll get engaged and not stand off at all

I’m talking about rugs and carpets and hallways

I think they might be beautiful

I started looking that way yesterday

I had no idea what I might find

In fact I found that it was different

But it remains a mystery
