GATHER ME

The effect of words

Words have effects beyond imagining

They stick and rankle

rest recur

sleep and then scream

And words is all they are

I never hesitate to dive

into the pools that

others make

There always is a prize

+

It is the poet in us all

that helps us realize

How odd it is

that little scribbles

have such heft

They cannot walk

They cannot talk

And yet we give them

supreme power

This little book

accepts the truth

by juxtaposing words

These words are serendipitous

Just to see

what happens when

the deed is done

+

You’ll have to look to catch the drift

And see the power for what it is

It is effect

That’s all it is

It either is or isn’t

Words have no presence and no life

save what we give to them

+

Become an artist real and true

Let your eye and mind

come through
