An ethical AI was developed and ended up giving some terrible answers. Ask Delphi, a machine learning program developed by Allen Institute for AI, was fed responses from a large online database. Essentially, ethical answers were crowdsourced and fed into the algorithm, per the article.

Some of the answers the bot gave were shocking, including that genocide was good if it makes everybody happy.

As a project, it is interesting to see what kind of “ethics bot” could be created; however, I am skeptical that it would be a useful tool in terms of guiding our ethical behavior since the answers will be determined by the majority…
