From the doorway I saw my then almost-four-year-old in bed, having a quiet moment with his number one sidekick, his go-to teddy bear. He had the well-worn bear’s head pressed to his forehead and he looked straight into the bear’s eyes. Then, in his sweet, openhearted voice he questioned his beloved.

“Are you in there?”

It reminded me of some religious thinkers I had studied in a college philosophy class: “God, are you out there? Or are you here, inside me?”…
