Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett once said, “My goal today is to convince you that this court is not comprised of a bunch of partisan hacks.”
I suspect few of us believed her, regardless of what side of the fence we sit on.
Our Supreme Court justices are appointed exactly for that purpose — to uphold the beliefs of the party of the president that appoints them.
Oh, on occasion we may have one go off the party line, but that rarely happens.
Who we are is a product of our experience. If you have studied law through the lens of a liberal or conservative, you tend to read it that way.
I hope they surprise me and their decisions are powerful declarations of justice. For all. But I’m not feeling very good about it.
Convince me, Amy.
