The largest Confederate monument in the country will be removed this week. That virtually guarantees that the debate over this issue will reignite shortly, which is just what we don’t need as the battles over masks, vaccines, and myriad other crucial issues continue to rage.
I wrote about these monuments and the myths surrounding them several months ago, so rather than another article I’ll just refer you to that one below. All I would add is that if the mayor of Richmond has to publicly say “Richmond is no longer the capital of the Confederacy,” we still have a lot of work to do.
