Working on your business Vs working in it
So you have an idea, an idea you believe in, an idea that you are sure will work, an idea that will give you the time, money and freedom that you dream of and you have finally decided to quit your day job and work full time on your idea.
I would like to tell you a story about one such guy lets call him abc.
Abc was a hardworking guy working in some xyz company. He was working hard and earning a decent income but was not satisfied.
He had an idea about starting his own venture. He was really excited about his idea and after doing some testing he finally decided to quit his day job and work full time on his business.
He made a plan, set up an office and started executing his idea according to his plan. He was working hard and very soon the hard work started paying and he started getting projects in bulk.
As the amount of work increases he started putting in more time by going to office early and staying up till late to finish the projects that he took.
The business was going really well and he was earning a lot but still he was not happy, he felt that something was still missing.
So what do you think:
- What mistake did he make?
- Why after having a successful business he was still not happy?
He was not happy because he was entirely working in his business and not on it.
He left his day job because he wanted more freedom, more time, more money and more peace of mind. He wanted to enjoy his life.
But right now as he was working in his business so it was exactly like his day job. It means if he did not work his business will stop.
What he end up doing was he quit one day job and started working as an employee in his own company and thus the problem remains the same.
If your main goal is to be your own boss, to have more freedom, time and money then you must remember that your main role is to work on your business and not in it.
You need to work on how to grow your business and for that you need to learn how to delegate the work.
Initially due to lack of resources you have to work in your business and that is ok, you should do that but you must always keep in mind that as an entrepreneur your main role is to work on your business and not in it.
