4. Thanking Trump as an ethnic minority

I’m beginning to think Trump just might be a secret believer and an activist in world peace and unity.

All these people, who before were mainly concerned about issues effecting themselves (or didn’t care about any issues at all), coming together against his incomprehensibly irrational policies… It’s something, the spotlight to the ignored and downtrod he’s managed to rack up in such a short time.

So in a strange way I thank him — NOBODY CARED about my place as a ‘ethnic minority’ in the society, before he burst out onto the scene with his legendary act. In all honesty, I don’t really believe all these people screaming for equality and diversity actually care, but at least it’s trendy to pretend to care, isn’t it?

Having survived since childhood as an East Asian in London, where the culture is deep-rooted in cosmopolitanism but also in cold indifference, I swear by this quote:

‘It’s worse to be ignored than to be hated.’

In a very weird way Trump gave a shit, and got people to give a shit too, with or against him. No other president has ever been able to achieve this. In our world, where we’ve grown so numb to both the suffering in lands afar and anyone outside our tiny circle of friends and family, maybe he was the villan we needed to stir things up dramatically, to make us FEEL again for once.

And he’ll be remembered. I congratulate the showman in him- you’re a modern day icon now! And I’ve an uncomfortable feeling I’ll still be remembering and somewhat thanking him in the far future…
