Dear Hillary Clinton

I feel the need to apologize. I’m not sure who I’m apologizing for. I voted for you. Maybe I’m apologizing for the country?

To borrow the phrase that we hear children utter every day: It just isn’t fair.

You have spent your entire adult life working as a public servant. You have been the First Lady of my home state, then the First Lady of my country, to a United States Senator, to Secretary of State — finally becoming the first woman nominated for President of the United States. You have worked hard even while in college to well beyond, assisting those in need. Giving up probably what many take for granted: a life not in the public eye. A life that isn’t scrutinized ruthlessly.

And because you are a strong woman, because you have dared to enter the world of politics and have not let it stop you from running for the highest office in our land — you have gotten more than your fair share of a “beating” than a lot of male politicians in your position would.

It just isn’t fair.

I am disappointed that our country had this opportunity to move forward with the progression made by President Barack Obama, and instead chose not only to seemingly halt progression — but to award this position you so truly deserved and are qualified for to a racist. A chauvinist. Someone who has never worked in public service. Someone who is only out for himself.

You deserved better than what happened. Our country deserves better; and while I know I shouldn’t say that because “it remains to be seen,” it comes from a gut feeling.
