Announcing Evmos Domains 📇 🚀
Since the time of writing this post, the Evmos Domains team has altered the pre-registration roadmap, and details on those changes can be found here.
It’s been a long few weeks building up and getting ready, but we’re excited to release the official launch post for Evmos Domains!
This post will include relevant details on Evmos Domains: the auction, launch, and deployments. Subsequent posts will cover our partnership program, pricing models, and post-launch.
Evmos Domains
Evmos Domains is a decentralized name service on the Evmos blockchain. It lets users register human-readable names like alice.evmos, and map them to non-human-readable data like wallet addresses or hashes. Users can even use them in place of addresses across major dapps in the Evmos ecosystem.
The use cases for decentralized names on Evmos span far beyond just resolving to your wallet addresses. Since you can register subdomains for your names and this resolution system works for virtually any data, you can also link your names & subdomains to avatars, social media, and even IPFS content hashes to host decentralized web pages.
How will name registration work?
To launch Evmos Domains fairly, we’re holding a pre-registration launch before the final launch. Once the final dapp goes live, anyone can register any unregistered name, but before then, we want to ensure as fair of a rollout as possible. Practically, this means:
- Distributing initial names fairly
- Preventing a flood of initial registrations for high-value names
- Incentivizing dapps to integrate Evmos Domains
- Ensuring support for users and developers
- Encouraging early adopters and users to participate in the launch
In the following sections outlining the launch sequence 🚀, we’ll cover in detail how we plan to accomplish each of these.
Pre-registration
The preregistration launch will consist of 2 phases: Auction and Drip.
Auction 🙌
To initially distribute names, we’re holding a sealed-bid Vickery auction. The auction will have a bid period (lasting 2 days) followed by a reveal period (lasting 3 days).
During the bid period, users are able to submit blind bids for names they want. For any bid, no one except the bidder can see the name being bid on or the bid amount.
During the reveal period, bidders reveal their sealed bids. As bid names and amounts are revealed, losing bidders are returned their money, and winning bidders pay the 2nd highest bid amount for their name (or the minimum amount if no 2nd highest bid).
Note: Details on the pricing model will be covered in a future post, but to help bootstrap users, pricing will be discounted during pre-registration.
Drip Registration đź’§
Once the auction is complete and all high-value names are distributed, the Drip pre-registration phase will begin. Over the 3 days following the auction, all un-auctioned names will be time-released for registration.
Each name’s hash will determine when it becomes available to register during the 3 days, and users will be able to view when each name becomes available in the pre-registration interface.
The Launch 🚀
Once the Auction and Drip pre-registration periods are complete, all pre-registered names will be migrated to the official Evmos Domains deployments and the dapp will go live, making all unclaimed names available for registration, and giving name owners access to set records, create subdomains, and resolve their names!
The partners program 🤝
