An Update on the Evmos Momentum Hackathon

Event Banner

Last month the Evmos Momentum Hackathon was announced, hosted by our Evmos Community in tandem with Huobi Incubator and Web3 Scholarship to support the growth of the Evmos ecosystem. It’s been an exciting last month and change for the Evmos ecosystem, with its share of ups and downs, but overall the excitement for the hackathon has been amazing to see.

To shed some light on how much activity there has been so far, in the past month we have had over 700 developers register, a few dozen projects submitted, and over a hundred projects that are in the draft stages. It’s been great seeing teams discussing their projects and even using their projects to boost other projects that are being built as part of the Momentum Hackathon in the telegram group.

With the recent attacks on Nomad, we’ve been working to support our community to recover and as we work to continue making progress growing our ecosystem. In light of these attacks, we wanted to give an update on the prize pool, which comprised $250K in EVMOS at the time of the proposal for the hackathon plus an additional $250K USDC. That USDC was bridged over to Evmos using Nomad and is held in a multisig on Evmos.

Because the Nomad exploit has resulted in a lower value of this portion of the prize pool, the Evmos Foundation is stepping forward to make up the difference with a contribution of around $200K to continue encouraging development and appropriately reward the important contributions that hackathon participants are making. Winners will still receive a portion of their rewards in madUSDC and can look to Nomad’s blog post “The Road to Recovery” for relevant information on these bridged assets and Nomad’s plans for them going forward.

As we’ve shared previously, the deadline of the hackathon is extended to September 20th, giving builders extra time to finalize their submissions. This will also allow for developers competing in Covalent’s upcoming OneMillionWallets Hackathon to also join the Momentum Hackathon.

If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up on Devpost for the Evmos Momentum Hackathon to stay up to date with all updates and deadlines as well as to join the community of other hackers to build your team!

About Evmos

Evmos is an Ethereum Virtual Machine–based blockchain in the Cosmos ecosystem and enables developers to launch apps that run smart contracts across any number of EVM- and Cosmos-based blockchains. It makes that process as simple and seamless as possible by allowing developers to continue creating apps in Solidity and Vyper like they’re accustomed to in the Ethereum ecosystem. Evmos opens a new frontier for blockchain applications, expanding the functionality of the EVM by enabling cross-chain applications that tap the liquidity and user bases of multiple blockchain ecosystems to provide a more unified experience.
