TL;DR: Evmos and DoraHacks are partnering to host a hackathon from May 1st to June 5th, encouraging cross-chain interoperability and innovation through EVM Extensions. The four tracks of the hackathon are focused on Infrastructure & Tooling, DeFi, DAO & Community, and leveraging EVM Extensions on the Evmos Testnet. Participants will compete for a prize pool of 98,000 $USDT and receive support for their projects, with a post-hackathon grants program to further incentivize innovation.

EVM Extensions enable trustless asset transfers, token staking, seamless communication with other chains, and more, enhancing the Evmos ecosystem and its potential for future developments. The partnership seeks to drive the future of blockchain development, foster growth within the Evmos community, and promote cross-chain functionality.

Evmos is partnering with DoraHacks, a global hacker movement and Web3 developer incentive platform, to encourage innovation in EVM Extensions to enable cross-chain functionality and enhance the capabilities of the Evmos ecosystem. This collaboration aims to empower developers to explore and build on the Evmos platform through a series of hackathons and workshops. The hackathons will offer developers the chance to showcase their ideas and receive support, fostering innovation and growth within the Evmos community.

A key focus of the Evmos-DoraHacks collaboration will be the development of EVM extensions.

EVM Extensions

EVM Extensions are stateful precompiled smart contracts that enable smart contracts on Evmos to interact efficiently with Cosmos SDK modules and leverage the functionality of IBC and other SDK modules. These game-changing extensions open up new use cases and functionalities, such as seamless communication with other chains, trustless asset transfers, $EVMOS token staking, account management, and access to functionality on other chains. DApps can now be created on Evmos without needing a new chain, unlocking new use cases for interoperable applications. Liquid staking, another major benefit, allows users to stake assets while simultaneously deploying Liquid Staking Derivatives, enabling projects like Lido Finance and Coinbase to introduce their offerings to Evmos.

For smart contract developers, EVM Extensions present opportunities like cross-chain DeFi with access to liquidity on Osmosis via Outposts, cross-chain ReFi with access to eco-credit registries on Regen Network, and seamless cross-chain NFT interoperability with Stargaze Zone, to name a few examples. EVM Extensions enhance cross-chain functionality by empowering dApps to connect to the Cosmos Ecosystem through the IBC.

Hackathon Details

The Evmos and DoraHacks hackathon presents an exceptional opportunity for participants to showcase their talents and develop innovative solutions across four distinct tracks. Each track focuses on a different aspect of Evmos' development.

  • Track 1: Leverage EVM Extensions on the Evmos Testnet — encourages participants to explore and exploit the capabilities of EVM Extensions in a test environment (~38k USDT).
  • Track 2: Buidl on Evmos: Infrastructure & Tooling — invites developers to create essential tools and infrastructure components that support and enhance the Evmos ecosystem (~20K USDT).
  • Track 3: Buidl on Evmos: DeFi — emphasizes the creation of decentralized finance applications and innovations using the Evmos platform (~20K USDT).
  • Track 4: Buidl on Evmos: DAO & Community — promotes the development of decentralized autonomous organizations and community-focused projects on Evmos (~20K USDT).

With the hackathon’s opening ceremony set for May 1st, the event will run until June 5th. Workshops and other key dates are yet to be announced. To reward and incentivize participants, the hackathon will distribute a total prize pool of 98k $USDT among the four tracks. To further encourage innovation and development in the crucial area of EVM Extensions, Track 1 will have an increased prize pool. The judging panel, consisting of core Evmos contributors and ecosystem partners, will evaluate projects based on a set of clearly defined criteria.

In addition to the exciting competition, the Evmos team will also offer a post-hackathon grants program to support promising projects, ensuring that the hackathon’s spirit of innovation and collaboration continues well beyond the event itself.

The Evmos-DoraHacks partnership is an exciting step forward for the blockchain community, promoting cross-chain interoperability and innovation through hackathons and workshops. By bringing together developers, experts, and industry leaders, this collaboration will help to grow the Evmos ecosystem and encourage developers to build groundbreaking projects that advance the capabilities of blockchain technology. With a focus on EVM extensions and a commitment to fostering innovation, the Evmos-DoraHacks partnership is set to drive the future of blockchain development. See you at the Hackathon!
