Avoid this Email Marketing Strategy; it Stinks!

If you are a marketer for a technology product or service, and you still love using email marketing as a lead generation tool, you must avoid a common marketing strategy that has been beaten to death — lying! Please stop lying to your prospective customers!

Let me elaborate on how many tech marketers still employ lying. If you have a C-type title such as CEO, CIO, CFO, CMO, etc. you might have seen emails like this:

Hey Joe,

Following up on our previous conversation, I wanted to see if you have 10 minutes this week to discuss what we have already started here. I assure you my team in India can really triple your efforts in …

Or, how about this:

Joe — following up on my previous email conversation, I wanted to include a few resources for your evaluation. Here is a web page our team put together specifically showing how <company name> used our technology in your industry.

Every week I receive several emails to get me to allocate time for either an M&A review of my company, a loan proposal, a tech team extension in a far far away land, or a Software as a Service (SaaS) integration, that I never asked for in the first place.

I have looked into some of these guys, and they are real people — marketers for actual companies — that employ this deceptive technique of trying to establish that we have had conversations before.

Just because you sent me three to five emails in a month from your automated email system where my email address has become a hostage, you sir do not know me and will not get on my work calendar!

Please, don’t try to establish your initial connection with a prospect by telling them that they might be already in contact with you — stop the lie!

I know it is hard to market new sh*t, and you are hard-pressed to use all kinds of automated, mindless drip email techniques to get your widgets in front of the supposedly forgetful executives or business owners.

But, do you — Mr. Drip Marketer — ever consider the fact that your awful drip emails are getting banned forever in filters? Well, they are. Your entire domain gets blocked, and you lose communication with your prospects forever!

Stop dripping away every shred of your God-given humanity and learn to start an unsolicited conversation with a proper introduction free of horrid lies!

Now have a great rest of your day and introduce yourself to a stranger without you know what!
