I am sorry — Discipline > Spa for self care

I transition from an Instagram world to medium so I am no stranger to using a spa, mani- pedi, shopping, facials, trip, food, fancy restaurants all in the name of self care. But where do you draw a line? When does self care in the name of these things cross the boundaries toward bypassing important life concerns.

Positivity is a rage and for good measure. But, what we see in Reels is maybe a 15 second view of what people are doing to be visible on the gram. We are only seeing the highlights and we are aping the lives of people on internet. Its pure crap once you start understanding the realities of lives of people. What’s happening today in the name of positivity is that we are bypassing important duties and life vision. What do you think achieves greater freedom? Eating a cake for self care every third day or following a healthy life style? What do you think achieves greater freedom? Spending out for achieving that validation for a post or building a strong financial base for yourself. What do you think is healthy? Sugarcoating a truth or seeing the reality and calling out truth for what it is.

Discipline will free you in ways that you can never imagine. It will give you the freedom of time, health, finances, good relationships which nothing else can. I don’t claim to be a spiritual teacher, but I believe that eventually at whatever level we are, we have to put in the work to get what we want. Discipline is the highest forms of self care.

For example — Say you want to take your kids to school which guarantees you some time with them, internet would say that “Me time” is important and listening to that, you didn’t sleep on time / wake up on time , but what you forgot to evaluate was that your priority was different. Maybe you valued spending time with your kids more than your me time.

Endless spas, trips, food trips, may put in a dent in your pocket. Maybe the people you are seeing do not have the big audacious goals that you have for life. Maybe they are just living in the moment and need experiences and not possessions or maybe they already have it all.

I am all in for a kind, soft life and I love that, but I don’t particularly adore when people build God Like images and start living their lives in a completely different way ; which in fact, may be detrimental to them.

At the end, its all about creating a value system for yourself and creating a set of priorities.

It’s easier said than done and I am also learning. Hopefully, you will release yourself from toxic positivity and call reality out for it is and then find solutions and enjoyment for yourself.

Discipline is the highest form of self care.
