You have to choose

Aren’t we all guilty of running here and there, trying to do everything we feel we should? This quote has helped me keep a tentative grasp on my sanity when I can’t do it all —

“You can do anything, but you can’t do everything”. David Allen.

David Allen, a production manager, said this. No, I have never read his book or taken one of his courses. I remember hearing this quote many years ago but did not even know who said it.

How often have we scrambled to fulfil perceived obligations and felt like a failure because it was too much? It has happened to me a gazillion times.

Then I would feel like a loser.

Sometimes, after wallowing in my misery for a time, I would remember this quote. It would hit me like a speeding car.

I was trying to do everything AGAIN.

This quote is a gentle reminder that we too often take on more than we can reasonably do. No one can do everything. But if we focus on personal priorities, we can do anything!
