That Reminds Me of Something….

I saw the new Zuckerberg concept this week: a “metaverse.” A universe of virtual reality that doesn’t sound like a creepy movie plot at all, really.

Then I saw the logo.

I know it’s supposed to look like a 3-D infinity symbol or a Möbius strip, but the first thing that popped into my head was,

It’s a Thigh Master.

For anyone not born in the previous century, the Thigh Master was an exercise device made of two curved metal tubes, joined at the middle by a springy hinge. The idea was to use the resistance of the device to tone muscles.

For your viewing pleasure, here’s the original commercial (feel free to laugh — or cringe, depending on your age — at the hair, clothes, and production values):

I don’t know how popular Meta will end up; one day, it could be as ubiquitous as all the other apps we use, or more so.

All I know is that every time I see the logo, I know what I’ll be thinking of.
