Why I keep choosing a rented scooter over a car
Driving a scooter might be my secret to staying young for infinity
Even after five years of using rental scooters, I still feel slightly thrilled when approach an elegant green Bolt scooter standing alone somewhere on the street. The thrill intetsifies when I press the start a ride button, put my feet on that lower part of it that will hold my body while I drive, and start driving. The scooter builds speed up to 20 km/h, the wind blows into my face, I’m fast enough to feel a rush of adrenaline and also slow enough to see the world around me, and I control my ride but also join the uncontrollable stream of movement that makes up everything, that’s life. Every trip is an entertainment.
And while I travel the streets of Kyiv alongside hundreds, thousands of cars – and feel how they dominate every open space on my way – I realise I will never own a car.
Why should I?
In cars, we hide and isolate, and join the flashmob of angry signaling.
On scooter, I remain the part of this game’s open world and am no better, bigger, bolder than anybody else.
