NIMCET 2020–21 — Dates, Eligibility, Pattern, Syllabus, Admission Process
National Institute of Technology, Raipur conducts NIT MCA Entrance Test (NIMCET) for candidates seeking admissions to MCA programmes in any of the NITs. NIMCET was slated to be conducted on August 9, but has now been postponed until further notice due to COVID-19. Candidates securing 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in relevant undergraduate programmes are eligible to appear for this national level entrance exam. Candidates were able to fill the online application form until June 11. The NIT MCA Common Entrance Test is divided into four sections. Candidates need to answer a total of 120 questions in 2 hours. All the correct responses will fetch 4 marks each.

NIMCET — Eligibility Criteria
The official exam body holds the authority to reject the candidature of ineligible candidates at any stage of the admission process. Thus, candidates must abide by the eligibility norms set by NIT Raipur as mentioned below.
- Nationality — Indian Nationals only
- Qualifying degree — Candidates must have any of the following degrees with Mathematics or Statistics as a compulsory subject:
- Score in qualifying degree — Candidates must obtain 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scale
Candidates who gain any of the above UG degrees from an open university are also eligible to apply.
NIMCET — Application Form
Eligible candidates can fill the online application form as per the schedule. Candidates have to follow certain steps to fill the application form, which are as follows:
Step 1: New registration — Visit nimcet.in and enter your details including name, email ID, mobile number, etc to complete the NIMCET registration
Step 2: Login — After registration, enter your email ID and password (shared on your email ID after registration) to enter the login dashboard and proceed to fill the application form
Step 3: Filling application form — Fill your personal details, academic details, marks information and the test centre choices
Step 4: Uploading of documents — Upload scanned copies of your photograph, signature, aadhaar card and the academic mark sheets

NIT MCA Common Entrance Test — Application Fee
The application fee for various categories is as follows.
Candidates who submit the online application form successfully before the last date are issued the NIMCET admit card. They need to carry the admit card on the exam day along with an ID proof. Hall tickets will be made available via the official login portal. Candidates need to follow the steps mentioned below to download the admit card without any hassle.
Step 1 — Visit the official website of NIT MCA Entrance Test, i.e. nimcet.in
Step 2 — Enter your credentials including email ID and password to access the login portal

Step 4 — The admit card will appear on the screen. Check all your details on the admit card before downloading the same

Right after taking the entrance exam, candidates wait for the release of the NIMCET result. It is anticipated that NIT Raipur will release the result within 30 days of conducting the exam. Candidates will be able to check their result online by following the steps mentioned below.
Step 1 — Visit the official website of NIT MCA Entrance Test (nimcet.in)
Step 2 — Enter your login credentials including email ID and password
Step 3 — Click on the ‘Login’ button (button in green colour) after entering your credentials
Step 4 — NIMCET rank statement will be displayed on the screen. Check your qualifying status and the sectional score
Step 5 — Download the NIMCET rank card and preserve the same for future references
What are Weighted Marks?
Candidates will be allotted a rank based on their weighted score. A candidate’s score in NIMCET out of 480 is scaled up to a score out of 1000. For this purpose, section-wise factorisation method is used wherein the marks obtained by the examinee in Mathematics, Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and English, will be multiplied by a factor of 3, 1.5, 2 and 1 respectively. Thus, maximum weighted marks will be 1000.
NIT MCA Entrance Test Factorization Method -
- Score in Mathematics is multiplied into 3 to convert the same out of 600.
- Score in Analytical Ability and Logical reasoning is multiplied into 1.5 to convert the same out of 240.
- The score obtained in the computer awareness section is multiplied into 2 to evaluate the performance of the candidate out of 80.
- Score of the General English section is left unchanged and taken as it is.
- Overall score after adding the weighted score of the candidate in each section is the final score of the candidate out of 1000.
NIMCET — Tie-Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates score similar marks, highest sectional marks of the candidates is taken into account in the following chronology for the resolution of tie -
If the tie isn’t resolved by following the above mentioned chronological order of marks, the older candidate will be considered for a better rank position.
After the release of the rank card, qualified candidates will be eligible to participate in the counselling process. The counselling for MCA admission is held in an online mode. The process of counselling will include the following steps:
Step 1 — Online choice filling
Step 2 — Allotment of seats
Step 3 — Payment of Rs. 10,000 as initial fee (only if reporting at any of the remote centres)
Step 4 — Reporting in-person at the any of the reporting centres (10 participating NITs)
Step 5 — Verification of documents
Step 6 — Exercising options to accept the seat or consideration for up-gradation in the subsequent round(s)
