RRB or Railway Recruitment Board conducts the NTPC or Non-Technical Popular Categories exam all over India to recruit candidates for the positions of Assistant Station Master, Traffic Assistant, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Goods Guard, etc.
Exam Conducting Agency (ECA) of Indian Railway will conduct the RRB NTPC 2019–20. ECA will handle all the exam-related activities such as generating admit cards before the exam, deciding venues and providing candidates all the technical, operational and various other support during the RRB NTPC exam.
RRB NTPC — Key Highlights
- RRB NTPC 2019 (Cen 01/2019) Stage 1 CBT exam will be conducted from 15th December 2020.
- RRB NTPC admit cards will be available 4 days before the main exam.
- More than 1.26 crore applicants have already applied for the exam.
- Approximately 35,208 vacancies will be filled through RRB NTPC 2019–20.
- RRB NTPC exam will be conducted in 15 languages.
- A total of 10,628 posts for Class 12 (pass outs) and another 24,649 posts for graduates have been announced under RRB NTPC category.

According to RRB NTPC eligibility criteria, a candidate should either be an Indian citizen or citizen of the countries mentioned below. The applying candidate must be either a:
- Citizen of India
- OR a Subject of Bhutan
- OR a Subject of Nepal
- OR a Person of Indian origin who has migrated from:
5. OR a Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before 1 st January 1962 to settle permanently in India

RRB NTPC — Application Form
RRB NTPC application process comprises online registration and application and fee payment procedure.
The foremost thing candidates need to do is register themselves for the exam. They need to visit the official RRB website ( www.indianrailways.gov.in ) and select the zone from where they wish to apply for the exam.
Online registration is the first part and only after its successful completion the candidates can move ahead to the second part. In this part, there are 3 stages: :
- Filling in Personal Details
- Filling in details related to Education Qualifications
- Uploading Photograph and Signature

RRB NTPC Application Fee Structure
Candidates would be allowed to pay their application fees via 2 methods:
- Online method — Net banking/ Credit card/ Debit card/ UPI
- Offline method — SBI Challan Payment mode (where cash can be deposited in any branch of SBI)/ Post Office Challans (Payment mode in any branch of Computerized Post Office
Even after the successful payment of application fee, the application status of the candidates will state if their application form has been accepted or rejected. If their RRB NTPC application status 2019 is displayed as ‘Accepted,’ the application process will be considered complete.

RRB NTPC — Application Form Correction Window
In case candidate/s had made any minor mistake or wish to edit any submitted detail after the final submission of the online RRB NTPC application form, they are required to pay a certain fee.
1. Candidates need to pay a sum of Rs. 100/- (Non-Refundable) irrespective of the categories to edit the RRB NTPC application form.
2. In case of modifying the community (SC/ST to UR or OBC), candidates have to pay an additional of Rs. 250 with the form correction or modification fee.
Rs. 250 + Rs. 100 = Rs. 350
3. In case of switching from Ex-Servicemen/ PwBD/ Female/ Transgender to UR/ OBC (NCL)/ Non Ex.SM/ Non PwBD/ Male. etc., candidates have to pay an addition of Rs. 250 with the form correction or modification fee.
4. Modification to the application and registration details can be done for a maximum of two times only.
The release date of RRB NTPC admit card 2019–20 is yet to be announced by the Indian Railway Authority. As per the latest update, the admit cards are expected to be released 4 days before the examination date, which is 11th December 2020.
RRB NTPC admit card is an important document. No candidate will be allowed to enter the exam centre without his/her admit card. Candidates must verify all the exam-related information mentioned on the admit card (like exam date, time, test centre address, etc.) and get the errors rectified (if any) to avoid cancellation of candidature. The admit card will be available online on the respective regional websites of 21 RRBs.
RRB NTPC — Guidelines for Exam Day
While appearing for the RRB NTPC 2019–20 exam, candidates must remember the following guidelines:
- Candidates will have to wear masks and carry sanitisers to the examination centre, considering the current coronavirus guidelines.
- The body temperature of candidates will be checked at the entry gate.
- The sanitization of exam centres after each shift will be done to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Still, try to keep the examination area clean and keep minimal surface contact.
- This year, biometric impressions of candidates will not be captured at the examination centres.
- Try to come earlier than the allotted reporting time on the day of the exam. This will help to prevent mass assembling and enable more social distancing protocol amongst the candidates.
- RRB NTPC admit card and a valid photo identity proof will be checked at the entry gate before allowing candidates to enter the exam hall.
- Candidates must keep their admit cards safe from wear and tear. Tampered, torn or dismantled RRB NTPC admit cards will not be changed in the examination nor will the candidate be allowed to sit for the exam with that torn admit card.
RRB will conduct the NTPC 2020 examination in 33 states and UTs across India via online mode. The exam centre allotted to each candidate will be printed on their respective admit cards. Please note that the candidates cannot make the changes once the preferred centres are submitted by them during the application process.
RRB NTPC Exam Centres
Candidates, with the help of RRB NTPC exam pattern, can get a clear idea regarding the sectional distribution of questions and marks associated with every section.

Candidates will get 4 options for every question. For every correct answer, they will be awarded 1 mark. However, 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. The normalization of marks will be done to adjust the difficulty of question papers and shortlist the candidates for 2nd Stage of CBT as per their merit.
Marking Scheme Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Candidates who have opted for the post of Traffic Assistant and Station Master are eligible to sit for this test.
- They will be given different test batteries, which will comprise of 5 or 6 tests (as per the posts).
- The medium of language to give this test are only 2 — English and Hindi, and not 15.
- Candidates appearing for this test will be relieved to know that there is no negative marking in CBAT.
- They need to secure a minimum T-Score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify this exam.
Typing Skill Test
In this test, candidates will have to type 25 words per minute in Kruti Dev or Mangal font (Hindi) and 30 words per minute in the English language on a standard computer without using any editing tool and spell check facility tool.
RRB NTPC syllabus is divided into 3 segments or subjects. It comprises 100 national-level questions on General Awareness (40 marks), General Intelligence and Reasoning (30 marks) and Mathematics (30 marks) for CBT Stage 1. The sections in the RRB NTPC syllabus remain the same for Stage 2 exam. However, the marks allocated to each section changes. To get a better grip on various RRB NTPC subjects , candidates can find several expert-recommended books and online study resources in the tables below.
RRB will release the preliminary answer key on the official RRB website ( www.indianrailways.gov.in ) after the exams are conducted. Candidates can download the answer key, which will be available in PDF format. They can calculate their probable scores with the help of the RRB and response sheet, much before the results are declared.
Candidates who have taken the test can raise objections against the preliminary answer key if they find any discrepancy or error. Candidates will have to pay Rs. 50 per question as objection fee to file their objection/s. If the RRB authority evaluates and finds the error to be genuine, they will not only publish the rectified final answer key but also refund the objection fee. However, candidates cannot raise objections against the answers published in the final answer key.
The schedule for RRB result declaration remains unannounced as the exam will take place from 15 th December 2020. Once the exams are conducted, and the notification for the results is out, candidates can check their results online by using their registration number and date of birth on the official RRB website.

The conducting body would be releasing the rank cards along with the results on its official website ( www.indianrailways.gov.in ). Along with the results, the RRB NTPC final answer key will also be released. Candidates will be shortlisted for the counselling process based on their combined ranks in Stage 1, Stage 2, Typing test and Medical test.
Railway authority publishes the RRB cutoff after the results are announced. Candidates who qualify as per the cutoffs are eligible to take part in the Stage 2 exam.
The number of candidates selected for the Stage 2 CBT RRB NTPC exam is 20 times more than the number of actual vacancies. When the RRB NTPC Stage 2 tests are complete, the candidates shortlisted in that round become eligible to move forward in the Computer-based Aptitude Test (CBAT) and Typing Skill Test.
Minimum qualifying marks for RRB NTPC Stage 1 and 2 Exam
As per the second cutoff, the number of candidates selected for the CBAT and Typing Skill Test is 8 times more than the number of actual vacancies.
