Even as she cringed at the touch of the knife along her mouth, Amélie found herself quietly marveling at the man who could turn such a threat into a light, sensuous caress. He brushed the tip of the blade between her lips, as soft and delicate as a feather, and then turned it to press the flat length of the knife across her mouth, an ice-cold kiss of her pink lips joined a moment later by the warmth of his lips brushing the rim of her left ear, then his mouth catching and gently tugging her earlobe between his teeth and flitting tongue. He drew the pocketknife away from her mouth to touch the length against her left cheek, to turn her face slightly back over her shoulder toward him, and she glanced out of the corner of her eye at the lavish hotel room and the pair of youths shamelessly staring at her stockings and white chemise.

“What sort of man leaves such a beautiful wife all alone in her room?” the brute standing behind her murmured in her ear, and he brushed her mouth with a fleeting kiss.
