High and Dry in The Atacama Desert

After an all-night ride coming from Peru, we spend our time til dawn parked inside a local bus station, sleeping in our seats, waiting for the sun to rise.

Something to do with security after dark.

We don’t ask questions.

All to say, we’re a little stiff and irritable as we file over to a different bus taking us to San Pedro de Atacama. And not to be too literal, our trip becomes a brand-new day arising.

As I’ve said ad nauseum in my travel notes, we’re not city folk while traveling. For us, that’d be a self-defeating proposition.

Leaving civilization for … civilization.

So, imagine our unfeigned delight upon entering a little boonies town called San Pedro de Atacama, gateway to the highest dry desert in the world.
