In Bruges — For Real
A Travel Story
We watched the movie In Bruges several years ago. Until then, we’d never heard of the place. Afterward, it seemed an exotic and quaint location to include in our travels.
We grab a bus in the empty field mentioned previously, and it carries us from Calais, France, to Bruges, Belgium.
We should know a bus like that will drop us somewhere just as remote.
We haven’t planned transportation to our hotel.
Running through several lanes of traffic, I flag down a taxi momentarily stuck at a signal light.
The hotel is closed.
Our hotel is as remote from the quaint and exotic town of Bruges as it is from our point of arrival.
The attached restaurant serves breakfast only, and the nearest eateries are some miles down the road.
We hoof it down the street to find those eateries are closed, too.
I guess our dinner routine is too early for most cultures.
