Regardless of the evils of humanity, people can be good.

Good morning!

Have you ever witnessed a group of people formed into a community merely through a common goal?

After much browsing on Reddit, I found a post this weekend about someone starting an intense diet for the next 21 days with a simple message, asking who would be willing to join her on the journey.

After 3 days, there are now fourteen of us inside of a group chat from all over the world — and I’m talking about everywhere from California to Alaska to Canada to England, New Zealand, and Australia — all supporting one another and pushing each other to stick with our dieting regiment, no matter what temptations may try to overcome us.

Now, just the fact that you can diet with other people and be comforted by the fact that you’re not alone in starving yourself and saying “No!” to all the foods you love is already pretty great, but the fact that a random post on a message board, with the leader’s thoughtfulness to create a group chat, has been able to bring together complete strangers from all corners of the globe is just mind-blowing.

And due to the intensity of the diet, the strength of the community is immense; everyone is welcome to share their struggles, to confess when they’ve cheated on their diet and need to restart, and there’s a sense of unconditional, judgment-free support coming from all of us, knowing that we all got ourselves in a position where we should be dieting or whatever.

The very concept that a group of strangers can come together from different parts of the world and support one another — more so than any of their real-life acquaintances who don’t approve of strict diets — is phenomenal, and it’s seriously allowing me to see the best side of humanity.

I want to keep this in mind when other humans disappoint me. People can be good. I want you to remember that today.

God bless you, have a great day!
