Imagine a Quiet Place
Close your eyes, imagine a peaceful place, and try praying.
Good morning!
Have you ever felt overwhelmed, in need of peace?
Usually, whenever I pray, if I’m not in the car then I’m walking; whether it’s on my lunch break or a hectic evening, I tend to walk around and simply talk to God, eyes open and alert as I walk through town and circle back around.
However, I was taught something really cool a little while ago from someone at my church; I’ve only practiced it a few times, but this morning I want to share it with you.
Here’s how it goes: you isolate yourself in a quiet and enclosed environment, then close your eyes; after silencing your thoughts, picture yourself physically sitting or standing in a location that brings you the greatest peace, joy, or serenity; then, when you’ve focused in on your special place, imagine Jesus joining you right there.
This exercise, when I tried it, led me to imagine a waterfall with large boulders at the top on either side of the river, smooth stones that I can comfortably sit on as I hear the water rush past me and crash loudly in the plunge beneath me. As I sat, Jesus sat next to me, and for the few minutes that the atmosphere was maintained, we talked.
Now, I probably should go through that exercise a lot more often, but I highly recommend you try it; I don’t know if you’ll be on a bridge between two mountains, in the heart of L.A., or wherever your imagination leads you to, but I bet you that there’s a place in your heart that brings you great calm; the good news is, we’ve been given a strong enough imagination that we can actually partake of the attached peace and serenity of nature without even being there, if needed.
I don’t know what results you’ll personally get, but either way, it wouldn’t hurt to try it now, would it?
God bless you, have a great day! (P.S. if you try this, let me know how it goes! Feel free to email me at david@exhortations.net at any time)
