No Man is an Island

Our lives, whether we like it or not, are all connected, and we affect each other all the time.

Good morning!

Have you ever thought about just how much your life affects other people?

On one hand, it’s strange how we tend to be overly ego-centric, believing that everything is about ourselves, and yet the majority of us simultaneously tend to think that other people’s lives are largely unaffected by our own.

In terms of direct interactions, of course, we know we could influence people’s lives pretty strongly, and we should live and love in such a way that our words and actions leave a positive imprint of God’s fingerprints on the lives of those around us.

However, the moment we think that our own dramas, tragedies, and mistakes won’t affect other people, we find ourselves horribly in the wrong.

You see, we’re all connected; maybe there is a unifying “Force” which binds us all together and links us together (Too bad it doesn’t actually give us superpowers), but even without it, our relationships with one another bind us together. If I’m friends with you and my life is in turmoil, whether I like it or not, I have a high probability of setting you on edge too, at least just a bit, because if my emotional instability affects my judgment, I probably won’t treat you perfectly well.

We’re all connected through layers and layers of relationships; that’s why focusing on yourself and your own problems — whether that’s just through learning to love yourself more or going to therapy — is so important; as you get yourself to be more healthy, your experiences with other people will also improve, and that’ll eventually lead to an improved health of your community as a whole.

Sorry if I’m rambling, but my point is this: your life affects the lives of those around you; anything and everything — from you enlisting, dropping out of high school, having your parents separate, to even suffering an injury or accidental death — can and likely will impact the lives of the people around you. No man is an island. Nobody can live in perfect isolation where their life has zero effect on other souls. We are all connected.

God bless you, have a great day, and please remember how much you matter today.
