Tears and Repairs

Our muscles typically work the same way our souls do

Good morning! Have you ever gotten sore from exercise?

If you don’ t regularly exercise, but you’ve decided to take it on yourself to work out, you will likely feel sore.

However, it’s interesting that the way this happens is that while you work your (unused) muscles, if you exert enough energy and strain yourself just enough (but not too much), you cause some of your muscles to tear; the soreness you feel is the aftermath of the muscles regenerating and growing back stronger to handle more stress the next time you do that exercise.

Sometimes, I think that our souls work the same way.

This may not be true for everyone, but it seems as though the people with the biggest hearts have experienced the greatest heartaches; as one’s heartstrings tear and regenerate, the heart gets ever slightly larger. Unfortunately, this means that those who want to be compassionate and have a love for people might have to endure heartbreak and see/experience the suffering of others enough to move their hearts — and yet not too much to the point that their hearts are hardened.

Whatever the case may be, whether it’s your heart or your muscles that you desire to grow (I am aware that the heart itself is a muscle), you will likely have to face the facts that growth involves pain, and it requires tears and healing to get from where you are to where you need to be.

God bless you, have a great day!
