Treasured Moments
Being present matters a great deal when escapism is so popular
Good morning!
How often do you just completely space out?
Every now and then, I’m sure you get so lost in thought that you forget to be present. It happens to everyone.
We can get so wrapped in our own worlds and our imaginations that we can basically transport ourselves out of whatever situation we’re in to a totally different environment just by shifting our attention and “spacing out”, while still standing in the exact same place. However, the problem with this is that it prevents us from being present. Why be where you are when you could be somewhere better in your imagination?
Believe it or not, I think the concept of being present and intentional is one of the reasons I love riding motorcycles; I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced this before, but when you’re riding a motorcycle and flyin’ down the highway at 80 mph with the wind blaring into your helmet like you’re at a rock concert, it’s amazing how there’s an almost perceptible lack of thought; your mind clears, you’re not thinking about being anywhere else or doing anything other than just being where you are and getting yourself to where you need to go.
It’s incredible how just some incredibly loud road noise can sometimes be everything you need for peace and quiet in your mind; however, you don’t necessarily need that to know how to be present and intentional.
Sometimes, all you need to do is mute your phone, place it down on the table, and focus on the person sitting right across from you, or perhaps reminding yourself of where you are, why you’ve chosen to be there, and thinking about how to best enjoy the situation and be grateful in it.
Let’s be ever so slightly more intentional about what we do this week.
God bless you, have a great day!
