Eximchain Global Hackathon Tour 2018: Seoul edition
Our global hackathon just kick-started this month! It will be a great pleasure to meet the local developers community in each city and discuss the ideas involving the blockchain technology for the Eximchain challenge.
The first destination was Seoul. Last weekend on 16–17 June 2018, Andrew Koh, solidity developer, and Yuree Hong, marketing lead, travelled from the US and Singapore to Seoul, South Korea, and spent the two full days with Korean developers mentoring and discussing ideas. The Seoul hackathon is partnered with AngelHack.
It’s all set for welcoming our global hackathon participants! We prepared for the giveaways: t-shirts, webcam covers, mobile card holders and Eximchain stickers.
The Seoul hackathon was held at Google Campus Gangnam. The registration & breakfast started at 9 am on Day-1.
As the opening ceremony starts, Ha from AngelHack shared the vision of AngelHack and this year’s hackathon theme: Seamless.
Eximchain solidity developer, Andrew Koh, explained our challenge and criteria for additional points. The Eximchain challenge theme will be the same across the cities during our global hackathon tour 2018.
Challenge: Build technology that solves a social or environmental problem and positively impacts the global supply chain
Prize: 3 ETH to be split amongst the winning team
The total hackathon participants were around 70 people. Two third of the participants were developers, and the rests were entrepreneurs and designers split evenly. We’ve met people with hybrid roles as in a developer with design or entrepreneurial skill sets.
Solo participants were given an opportunity to introduce themselves so that they could find the group looking for the relevant needs. They were very passionate about sharing their value propositioning and what they are looking to develop during these two days. The room was beginning to be filled with excitement and enthusiasm!
Some groups have come prepared with their project topic, while others said that they are here to develop something new and fun. Regardless of what they create, it will bring them an unforgettable experience mingling with like-minded people.
From Eximchain, Andrew, Yuree, and Hyo, our Korean community manager, joined the event. Special thanks to Hyo for spending time with us over the weekend!
On Day-2, the demo presentation for the challenge started at 3 pm. We realized that most of the groups focused on mobile app development instead of the blockchain-related solution development. A team named Indelible showcased a Dapp, the immutable online content sharing and voting platform, which utilizes the system with smart contracts and tokens.
There was only the AngelHack challenge prize winner this time, unfortunately. We hope to see the more blockchain-enabled solution demos for the upcoming hackathons, which will become the potential winner for the Eximchain’s challenge.
The final session was Happy Hour! The beauty of the events like this is that you could network with highly driven people. We were truly inspired by the eagerness to learn & grow from the participants. We were honoured to have met everyone and shared the excellent stories over chicken and beer!
Our next destination is Singapore. We look forward to your continuous support for the Eximchain global hackathon tour 2018!
