Exit Live is built from the ground up to provide artists with a platform that is fair and sustainable. Through Exit Live you can sell recordings of your performances to your fans, with you having control over your price and your payment. We believe it’s the ultimate encore, ensuring that your audience can re-live a gig, or join in on a night that they weren’t able to attend.

We’ve worked hard to ensure that Exit Live is simple to use and accessible. Even so, we wanted to share our guide on getting started with Exit Live — just to ensure you don’t miss a trick.

1. Create your account

With Exit Live there’s no distinction between an artist and a fan. Often, they are the same, and for others, it may just be a matter of time before they traverse into creation as opposed to just enjoyment.

To create your account, go to: https://exit.live/#register

You can simply connect your Facebook or Google account and accept the terms and conditions. Alternatively, you can register with your email address and use the Verification to assure us you’re not a robot (but remember, robots need love too). Then, hit send.

We’ll then send an email to your account. Click the link within this. You’ll be directed to a page where you can then enter your full name, country, and password. Do ensure your password is harder, better, faster, stronger.

Finally, click Register.

And that’s your account created! Easy-peasy!

2. Create your Artist page

The Artist page is the focal point for all your activity. You can create multiple, if you happen to have different acts. To create your first one:

Go to https://exit.live/dashboard/

Click “Add page”

Add page

Name your page — it’s best to keep it to your known artist name. Then, click “Performer”, select your subtype, and then your currency.

Provide information for the page

3. Expand your profile

Once created, you then have a bunch of details you can choose to fill in. Generally, the more you fill in, the better. It’s good to add external links as well so that fans can easily find out more about how awesome you are.

Page settings and description

Note, at this point your page isn’t published — not until you hit the little toggle in the top right. If you’re ready to go, go ahead and click it and the artist page will be instantly visible.

This is also a good time to fill in the other important bits of information:

  • Overview — you can see a summary of your balance, and information on your followers
  • Billing — so we can pay you. Something quite special about Exit Live is that we can pay you instantly. No 30-day period. Whether £5 or £5,000, if you request payment, we’ll act on it immediately.
  • Admins — if there’s other people you want to be able to add information or shows on your behalf, you can add them here
  • Tools — this is a Beta feature, allowing you to add a widget to your website, so they can listen to tracks and browse your shows without leaving your domain (find out more here)

4. Adding shows

When it comes to adding shows, you have two choices. You can either advertise a forthcoming show, so that fans can pre-purchase the recordings, or you can upload recordings of older shows and instantly upload the tracks.

For the purposes of this blog, we’ve gone through the more popular former, but the process is similar either way.

To add a show, go to the dashboard and select “Shows” on the left-hand side bar. Then click “Add Show”.

Here you can fill in the details and, don’t forget about the price tag — set it! If you know your set list, you can also pre-list your tracks. You can set details such as: royalties, whether it is explicit or not, and whether to publish it. (If you were uploading an old recording, this is when you would add the recordings as well).

You should also ensure you add a snazzy image and banner as well.

Finally, to publish it, click the drop-down box in the top-right. By default, it will be hidden, but you can ch-ch-ch-change it to:

  • Listed — so that users can see the show, but no purchase is available
  • Pre-Order — so that users can pre-purchase the album ahead of time (and receive it as soon as it is live)
  • On Sale — this is what you would set when you have all recordings online

5. Adding tracks

Our number one tip here is — be a speed king! Upload the tracks as soon as possible after the show. While the sound of your music is running through their brains and they’re still on a concert high.

The best way to add tracks is to go to your created show and upload the tracks there. You may want to polish the tracks a little before uploading, but we think a raw feel is better! Try not to overproduce — keep the uniqueness of the recording and let your fans enjoy it.

Under your show you can select “Create track” and fill in details as I described above. If you’ve already done this, you can simply drag and drop your files into the browser or click “Add file” next to the track name.

When you’re finished, don’t forget to switch the state to “On Sale”.

6. Shout!

Shout! Let it all out! Any fans that are following you will automatically get a notification when you push a show live — but it’s important you use all your options to ensure your audience know you’re selling your live recordings. Here are some options:

  1. Send an email out — to your fans and your friends
  2. Post a link to social media, and promote it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc — multiple times!
  3. Consider mentioning it while on stage at your show
  4. Hand out leaflets or posters
