Making money off of the web is an age old problem. Advertising has become progressively more aggressive as companies mine the data off of our various profiles or use “cookeis” to see what we like and click on. This should make everyone more than a little uncomfortable. Unfortunately, it’s become so commonplace in our society that it does not even occur to us anymore to be upset about it. If we are going to make any sort of lasting change on how we make money off of the internet, it will have to be an extremely innovative idea. Obviously many of the streaming sites that started off free and have become subscription only have found a business model that works well, but it’s impossible to say that the same business model will work for etsy or facebook. Whatever the answer is, it will hopefully help us regain some of our privacy and rights as users at the same time.
