She Invests in Startups That Want to Launch in The US!
Sophie Angner studied the 3-year entrepreneurship program at Södertörn University and has since then followed the same footsteps. After living in the United States for several years, she realized a great need from entrepreneurs to want to break through, but who did not really know how. After studying entrepreneurship and working for the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles for a long time, she wanted to fill the large gap of misguided dreamers with her skills.
Today, Sophie works as an investment decision maker and mentor for startups for the Expert Dojo accelerator in Santa Monica, California. She enjoys spending a lot of time with driven entrepreneurs. “My job is first to predict the startup’s future potential, and then to decide whether it’s worth investing in. It’s extremely exciting,” Sophie says. Right now, she is looking for Sweden’s most promising startups who are interested in launching in the US. “We focus a lot on startups from Israel, and have also invested in a few Israeli startups, but we are now also aiming for Swedish entrepreneurs, as the Swedish startup nation is well on its way to reaching the world top. More than 1000 Swedish companies in different business areas are already established in the US and they have a good reputation here in general, Sophie says. Her advice to other Swedish startups who want to get here is to understand what is the difference between US and Sweden in their particular industry, and to make sure to build the right team and find the right partners.
