On May 5th and 6th approximately 175 developers, designers, UX professionals and entrepreneurs descended on Fanshawe College’s Centre for Digital and Performing Arts for Explode Conference 2016 to share and provoke.

I think a lot more than that happened:

  • Our notions of gender, race and socio-economical biases in design were challenged.
  • The fuse was lit for a number of first time conference speakers!
  • We forged new friendships and strengthened existing ones.
  • We made our mark on history!

I hope we can look back in 5 years and say: “WOW, that’s where this started!”

“I loved the actionable advice that I heard from many speakers –too often I’m at conferences that are pointlessly self-promotional. This event had speakers who were prepared and willing to talk about things that acknowledged the experience level of the audience.” — Attendee

I want to sincerely thank everyone who showed their support for the conference by blogging their excitement and telling us that they cared:

It means a great deal to me and to everyone involved with Explode to have the support of so many amazing people and organizations. Without it, the event would not have been as successful as it was!

“It was great! So well planned and thought out — speakers, food/vendors, swag, partners/sponsors. It was really well put on, and will only get better year after year!” — Volunteer

For me personally Explode Conference was the culmination of 3 years of running Explode Code meetups, being part of a great Tech Community and 3 months of hard work and I’m very happy with the way things turned out. I got to work with a lot of really passionate people who are trying to make the Tech Community in London stronger and give it a louder voice. If we want that community to thrive we have to reinvest in it! I hope Explode Conference can be a catalyst for others to begin investing in the community and for those who already do, a spark for bigger and better things in the future!

We received lots of constructive feedback from attendees, speakers and sponsors which is going to help make Explode Conference 2017 an even bigger success! Hope to see you there :D
