Workdays can be pretty exhausting at times and Friday can seem far away. Fortunately, someone came up with alcohol. Especially Lisbon offers a great variety of locations for having a drink together with friends.

Today, we’d like to highlight some of the best places and drinks you have to check out on your next night out while being in Lisbon. Enjoy!

1. The Student

Preferred by most young people in Lisbon, the Student should be the first choice if you’re trying to efficiently increase your blood alcohol level with only minimal, monetary input. It is perfectly suited for Pregaming with friends in the evening hours, after a long day full of classes and exams.

Although the Student comes in many different variations, it is often times just called a beer by the inexperienced customer who’s unaware of the countless manifestations of this particular beverage. Looking at its visual appearance, it is composed of well… beer and foam, I guess, but there’s definitely a lot more to it than you might think.

Give it a try at Cafetaria Italiana!

2. The Connoisseur

But of course, not everyone’s interested in getting completely hammered at optimal costs. Some people rather prefer having a rich experience than a binge drinking session. That’s called having standards. Yes. Look it up, you filthy animal.

If you want to enjoy every aspect of your drink, the Connoisseur is the right way to go. Where else can you dive into heated debates about Bordeaux vs. Burgundy wine while sipping a glass of oaked Cabernet Sauvignon?

Forget about amateurish terms like sweet or bitter. It’s all about having a taste of liquid cashmere with a hint of dark chocolate.

The Connoisseur might not be for everyone, but you might like it someday. And you can learn a lot about the French geography.

3. The Tourist

Let’s face it, as a foreigner you’re probably not in Lisbon to become a gourmet. Most people just want to have fun, enjoy life to the fullest and afterwards share it on Instagram. For this, I’d suggest you pick the Tourist.

It comes in all possible colors and it mostly consists of various exotic juices and a wide range of liquors, decorated with little fruit slices, just to top it off.

It is playful, adventurous and open for new experiences, just like you (#inspiration). So let’s celebrate ourselves with the Tourist and empty our wallets before a pickpocket does it.

Hint: Cocktail umbrellas are major 🔑

4. The Classic

The Classic is something more than just a beverage. It’s for those who want to relax and take a break from Lisbon’s everyday life with all its facets.

For more than 150 years now, both locals and tourists come together to taste this cherry liqueur and with it, a piece of Portuguese culture. It is ideal for a get-together with friends and family after a stressful day at school or work.

So take your time, look around and appreciate the moment while everyone around you seems to be in a constant rush. Oh, and don’t choke on a cherry!

5. The Insider

Last but not least, we have the Insider. The drink for people who know what’s up, who have seen every corner in Lisbon (maybe not every corner) and know the best places for a great night out.

Far from the overwhelming flow of tourists, the Insider is sipped together with good friends. After all, you’re continuously exposed to lots of funky foreigners who want to take pictures of every single Azulejo tile while they proudly present their well-worn sandals paired with long socks.

No, the Insider does not belong out there. It’s rather a drink that just tastes great, without the need to prove something through a fancy presentation, and which you should just enjoy with some of your best pals. Cheers!
