Nazis are infamous for their crimes and atrocities, however, they are also known for their cunning methods of achieving their objectives, and Operation Bernhard is undoubtedly one of those.

Operation Bernhard was a secretive endeavor orchestrated by Nazi Germany with the goal of counterfeiting British banknotes.

Originally designed to destabilize the British economy during World War II, the plan involved dispersing these fake notes over Britain.

Commencing in the early months of 1940 under the guise of Unternehmen Andreas (Operation Andreas), overseen by the Sicherheitsdienst (SD), the operation was meticulously executed.

Great efforts were dedicated to replicating the unique rag paper used in British currency, creating nearly flawless engraving blocks, and deciphering the algorithm used to generate the alpha-numeric serial codes on genuine notes.

However, internal discord, particularly between the unit’s leader, Alfred Naujocks, and his superior officer, Reinhard Heydrich, led to the cessation of the unit’s activities in early 1942.
