As a recovering addict, I love to see celebrities publicly discuss their sobriety. For better or for worse, our culture is largely celebrity-driven. These stars’ words and actions can have powerful, positive effects.

When high-profile actors and actresses open up about their struggles with alcoholism or substance abuse, they break down the stigma surrounding addiction. By normalizing recovery, they show other addicts that there is no shame in asking for help.

For the past few months I’ve been writing about these celebrities who have gone public with their sobriety. Below, I’ve rounded up a list of ten stars who have helped inspire their fellow recovering addicts.
