Steve-O’s Sobriety

Steve-O (of MTV’s Jackass fame) was once known for hard partying and excessive drug use. However, in 2008, his friends felt that his addictions had gotten out of hand, and had him involuntarily committed.

He was placed under a two-week hold. Initially, he had no interest in quitting his drug use, but by the time the hold was over, he had decided that he was going to give sobriety his all.

Out of all the celebrities who have gone public with their sobriety recently, I find Steve-O to be one of the most inspiring. In part, this is because he seems to have transformed his life so fully. Even more importantly, though, is that he appears truly committed to spreading his story in a way that can help other struggling addicts.

Steve-O has spoken again and again about his sobriety, both on his podcast (Steve-O’s Wild Ride) and as a guest on other podcasts and interviews.

He’s given a ton of great sobriety advice over the years, but there’s one piece that stands out to me as particularly important for anyone fighting to overcome addiction: stay in the pack.
