Tom Arnold hit a major recovery milestone yesterday: 5 years sober!

The actor has struggled with addiction throughout his life, publicly embracing sobriety but also experiencing multiple public relapses.

He first got sober in the late eighties. When his friend, fellow comedian Chris Farley got sober, Arnold served as his sponsor. In an interview with Howard Stern, Arnold said that Lorne Michaels (creator of Saturday Night Live) originally suggested he help Farley.

Unfortunately, Farley relapsed several times and the pair eventually stopped seeing each other. Arnold said that Farley avoided him because he didn’t want to be seen breaking his sobriety.

It wasn’t until 2008 that Arnold experienced his own relapse. He was in a motorbike accident and had to take painkillers while recovering. Unfortunately, he ended up hooked and had to see an addiction specialist to once again get sober. (Source.)

He later relapsed again but has now been clean and sober since 2017.

To celebrate the milestone, Tom Arnold posted a message for fans on Twitter:
