Why Did Tom Holland Quit Drinking?

Tom Holland is wrapping up his third year of sobriety, after quitting alcohol back in January of 2022.

The actor has been open about his sobriety for quite a while, but in a recent interview on the Rich Roll podcast, he shared more details about why he quit drinking in the first place.

He said that initially, he didn’t plan to quit drinking entirely, he “just decided to do Dry January.”

Dry January is a popular New Year’s challenge in which people attempt to go the month without alcohol. Most people who try Dry January are not trying to stay sober for good — it’s just a temporary adjustment, motivated by a wide variety of desires, such as finding a healthier diet, reassessing their relationship with alcohol, or simply trying to start the new year off with a bit more focus.

However, some people who try Dry January discover that their relationship with alcohol is far worse than they thought. The time away from drinking causes them to rethink whether they should ever go back to it. That’s exactly what happened in Holland’s case.
