German Sunday reading

The American ideology for a typical Sunday was very different than the Germans spent their Sundays within common rituals practiced. For Americans, it was common to spend their Sundays with ones own family, whether that be taking the day to relax and catch up on leisure time, or if that may be partaking in religious opportunities, similar to how Americans spend their Sundays today. This was very different than how the Germans spent their Sundays. For the Germans, Sunday was used as a day to work ahead and make strides in their days. In an article written in the Weekly California News for Montaux County in October 1st of 1859, it states, “Her priests read a portion of it daily as a matter of duty. — They preach from it, and read a portion of it every Sunday at their congregation.”
