Ozark News, St. Clair, 1940–1952

There were many issues within the article I read from Ozark News. The most pressing were lightning striking a clothing store, a church robbing, and a barn burning down. The article also discussed happenings in the area such as tent camping, club meetings, and information about boy scouts. On one page there is also information about the St. Clare Catholic Church, and another page discusses a methodist and baptist church, leading me to believe the Ozark News audience consists of Christian readers.

Pacific Transcript, Pacific, 1923–1933

A significant issue within this article is the Ku Klux Klan growing membership. In doing so, the klansmen are going against orders of Governor Smith who was trying to limit these assemblies. The Klan increased by nearly thousands at many of these ceremonies they were putting on across the states. The article states that Klan members made the ceremonies as “dramatic” as possible, wearing their white robes guarding the field and road leading to and from, and setting up colored lights above in the telephone poles. This article was not opinionated at all, rather stated the blatant facts about the meeting and government disapproval. On the side of the article there are some ads for Sunday School, HOBO Kidney and Bladder Remedy, Yeast Foam. Based on the way this article was written I think that the audience is for the typical mother and father at the time. The ads are very targeted at women in the home, such as the yeast foam that specifically addresses that it can “give a girl confidence in mastering baking”, and HOBO remedy which discusses the interest of a fellow father.
