Prohibition Article printed in Franklin County

This is not quite an article, but instead an advertisement printed in Union, Missouri provided for by the Citizens’ Committee. The Ad is a call to have voters vote against prohibition in Missouri. It mentions how if prohibition goes into effect it will damage the economy and doing it during the time of a war will also damage the state. It completely disagrees with allowing prohibition to become an amendment. It talks about how prohibition itself is unconstitutional and unpatriotic due to the rights that are limited to American citizens with prohibition.

Unlike the Mob Museum’s article on “World War I Played Key Role In Passage of Prohibition” (https://themobmuseum.org/blog/world-war-played-key-role-passage-prohibition/), this page does not mention a lot of the war’s effect on why prohibition was being implemented. It also does not include any information on the way other cultures (German, Irish, Russian, etc.) played a part in the influence of prohibition being established.

In the article “How World War II Saved American Beer Brewing’’ by Toni M. Kiser and Kristen D. Burton (https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/how-world-war-ii-saved-american-beer-brewing) talked about how important resources were being used to produce alcohol and it hurt both our economy and the sources available to those at war. However, the Citizens’ Committee argues that banning alcohol will hurt our economy even more than saving the sources that are used in the production of it. It claims that revenue from beers, wines and spirits will eventually reach “one billion dollars per year.”
