“It is fitting that the most famous symbol of our fair city originated as an ad for a real estate development? Whatever the case, the sign, which originally read ‘Hollywoodland,’ has been beckoning visitors since 1923.” — Andrea Richards, 500 Hidden Secrets of Los Angeles

This was a fun one. Everyone dreams about the thrills and sights of Hollywood. I had the chance to hike this with friends, and the view is incredible.

We decided to hike via the Burbank Peak Trail, which “climbs from the west, passing a mini-summit viewpoint on the ridge of Cahuenga Peak known as Burbank Peak (home of the Wisdom Tree).”

Many sites describe the climb as “rugged,” and even that feels like an understatement. It was tough. It felt like at some moments we were scaling a mountain. But getting up there and seeing that view made it so, so worth it.

Here’s a photo of me behind the Hollywood sign!

Be sure to bring lots and lots of water if you’re going our route, and a few snacks for breaks. Serious climbing sneakers are a must and be ready to get dirty.

My Review: 4/5
